Abstract

Universities are a major factor in education, knowledge generation and technology creation. Campus life typically takes place in a social environment influenced by university facilities, research institutes and local companies. Integrating and connecting individuals in this environment based on their characteristics, competences and preferences offers potential for improvement. The scenario discussed in this paper introduces a concept for a web-based service enabling students to improve their social grouping activities. User-submitted profiles are used to create and maintain social groups. Potential participants are selected according to the concept of similarity and complementarity in skills and preferences. On meta-level groups are interconnected to create synergies in order to improve knowledge exchange and creation on campus. Initial results show the high demand for student-related mobile services.
