Abstract

Insufficient information exchange alongside an accepted assignment can lead to avoidable scrap parts or reconditioning during heat treatment for a company. If however customers or suppliers communicate needed information voluntarily, unplanned preliminary work before the heat treatment as well as scrap parts or reconditioning after heat treatment can be reduced and both sides can profit from this win-win situation. To show the necessity of this information and to encourage the voluntary communication, the AWT research committee 25 - quality assurance in heat treatment - has made it to its business to provide rationale for necessary information for successful heat treatment. Based on the table of necessary specifications of heat treatment at contract preparation [1], provided by the IHT (Industrieverband Härtetechnik), the research committee 25 expanded this checklist by more necessary specifications for heat treatment and documented first rationales. This paper illustrates the current status of the project and provides practical examples to proof the importance of information exchange.
