Abstract

Emerging customer needs for individualized solutions are affecting manufacturing enterprises today. As a result, they are forced to bundle their tangible products with associated services to so called “Extended Products” (EP). The expected high-quality of the solutions makes effective and comprehensive Requirements Engineering (RE) a must. However, the interdependencies between product and services increase the complexity of the RE process. In many cases, the customer is not aware of the exact requirements towards the tangible and the intangible components of the solution Furthermore, EP realization often requires efficient collaboration between different stakeholders, e.g. the manufacturer and service providers, who will have to identify and receive the requirements for their specific contribution. This paper will give a first overview of the RE challenges for EP.
